Gender Equality.

It’s this gender equality issue that I’ve been wanting to talk about.

The rave has been on, and I’ve been reading articles from my friends..

Infact, Steve Chike Abia’s article got me really thinking about the role of bride price in gender equality ( and I’m still thinking)..

Then there have been articles on the wife of the Akwa Ibom State Speaker, kneeling down to appreciate her husband for supporting her in bagging her PhD degree and all that, and all that…

Well, here’s my stand.

The Women Worker’s Rights and Gender Equality states :

“Gender equality entails the concept that all human beings, both men and women, are free to develop their personal abilities and make choices, without the limitations set by stereotypes, rigid gender roles and prejudices.’

“Gender equality means that the different behaviours, aspirations and needs of women and men are considered, valued and favoured equally.”

“It does not mean that men and women have to become the same, but that their rights, responsibilities, and opportunities, will not depend on whether they are male or female”.

Men and women are a distinct whole of uniqueness that can never be equal, literally.

But the crux of the matter is this:

One cannot give what one doesn’t have.

Cj Chibuike Joseph Chukwudum puts it beautifully:  “Feminism movement is fighting the wrong battle, hating on men. ‘Patriarchy’ is not necessarily men seeking to enslave women, but is rather a mentality that cross across both sexes, a socio cultural stereotype”.

Simply put, the war for gender parity has to be first won in the mind of the girl child.

It is common to see how quick we women are first to antagonize and throw darts at our kind. Any woman who wills to become, in a supposedly male dominated area, is considered ‘heady’, ‘stubborn’ and ‘unsubmissive’, mostly by her womenfolk.

So, in the case of the kneeling wife, a woman has the right to choose how to demonstrate her appreciation for her man.

It is not wrong place to do so. Above all, it was her choice. It also does not mean, that it was ‘her right’  to do so.

It was an action borne out of love and respect for her man, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

What should form a cause for concern is how she views herself in her mind’s eye. Her sense of self esteem. Does she know her worth? Does she act devoid of self esteem to her husband? Does she see herself as a slave to her man, or as a partner?

Still in Cj’s words: “the mind of the girl child must be revolutionized. She must be taught to see beyond the limitations imposed on her by sociocultural stereotypes, and rise to achieve her full potentials”.

She must also be taught to have self worth- to know that her strength and will must be drawn from her own unique challenges..and not what the society thinks about her, or seeks to make her believe..

So, until that war on gender equality is won within, the war without is a vague course.

Oh yes, well said. Still love to hear your views on this.

The number 18 is always a significant number for me, maybe because i was born on the 18th, or maybe not.

Do you attach importance to dates and days?

Well, come to the first week in the month of April. It’s the sunny summer time, and the heat is on. I pray that this month will bring us good tidings, successful biddings and awesome winnings in Jesus name, Amen.
It’s another Sunnday, time for the quote, verse and word of the week.

“Be passionate about something bigger than yourself. It inspires growth”

Sometimes our dreams seem so huge and great, that we get a bit sacred to take bigger steps. Oh well no one fulfilled their dreams by just being comfortable with the little small things, there’s always going to be that stretch if we want to attain greatness. So be ready to climb new heights, it might look scary but you’ll definitely grow, and learn new things. I can say for myself that starting this blog was a big step for me, but i decided and it’s been awesome because I’ve been learning new things through my research, things I didn’t even know existed. Driving your purpose with great passion inspires growth.

Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.
{Proverbs 3:5-6 AMP}

In everything we do, according to this scripture, acknowledging God and totally dependence on Him brings about divine direction. There are things in the future which we can’t see but once we commit our ways to Him, He leads us in the right path to follow. The wisdom of man is like foolishness unto God. Are you trying to start a new project but you’re not sure of the how and where? Commit it unto God and He’ll direct your paths. Amen.

Bias Cut

This is a term used in the fashion industry.
It is the diagonal direction of a woven fabric. Unless woven from stretch yarns, fabrics stretch more in the woven direction than in the length or width.

Designers can take advantage of this stretch by manipulating the fabric so that the bias areas fall in ways that cause the designs to fit the body more closely or drape into soft folds. Designer Madeline Vionnet (active 1912 – 1940) was renown for her bias designs.

ReBLOG – The Climate Reality PROJECT

The headlines can be discouraging. Severe storms and wildfires are striking with more and more intensity due to rising global temperatures and a rapidly changing climate system. Meanwhile, the US continues to roll back critical climate policies and has maintained its irresponsible and very lonely decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement. But instead of feeling defeated, citizens – from all ages and backgrounds – are fighting back by standing up for clean energy and against the fossil fuel agenda. The movement is growing stronger every day, and our efforts together are getting results.Just look at what’s happening, both in the US and around the world. Young people are suing the Trump Administration for failing to address climate change. Grassroots organizations have pressured US cities to double climate efforts, and at least 47 have already committed to 100 percent renewable electricity. Internationally, climate action is also accelerating as several countries have stepped up their ambition to reduce emissions and install more clean energy, helping to fill the global leadership void left by the US.Are you ready to join the movement? We understand that speaking up can feel overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be. We broke the process down into three simple steps.

Mar 14, 2018 | SDG Goal.

The first world countries described as “Developed” often categorize third world countries as “Developing”,  however lack of material wealth does not really indicate that a country is deprived. Also a strong economy in a highly developed nation does not mean much especially when a significant percentage of the population is struggling to cross the poverty line and manage vulnerability.

Women are limiting their own progress by not considering themselves as “visionary thinkers,” according to researchers Ibarra and Obodaru. In fact, these professionals reveal that the female majority does not value the more abstract “visionary” thinking as much as they value their practical orientation toward solving problems.

This is a game-changer, if we want to elevate women to higher leadership.  It means that even if you are a highly-successful female professional, you are no doubt keeping yourself from an even more incredible future, simply because you may not be developing your visionary thinking.

Everyone wants to associate with success, in fact it would be right to say everyone lives to succeed in life.

“There are two types of people who will tell you that you cannot make a difference in this world: those who are afraid to try and those who are afraid you will succeed.”This quote by Ray Goforth speaks a lot about your perspective towards success.

Why are we always sacred to try?
