A GREENER PRESENT

02. 05. 2018 || Sustainability at COP23

A Re-blog By Jessica White

Thousands of people visited Bonn for the 23rd Conference of Parties UN Climate Change Convention.  With so many people in one place attending an event on climate change, it is obvious that the conference itself should be sustainable.  But what is sustainability and how can such a large conference achieve the status of being a sustainable conference?  Sustainability involves exercising practices that ensure we are not using more resources than we can generate for the next generation.  To highlight how COP23 is working towards improved sustainability, walking tours have been offered, illustrating the many sustainability initiatives.

A Climate Neutral Conference

Prior to attending the COP, every individual involved was given the option of paying to compensate their travel, making their trip to the COP carbon neutral.  This was offered as a complimentary action to one already being taken.  The Ministry of the Environment is working to compensate all emissions associated with the conference.  To do so, after the end of the conference, the state will be collaborating with scientists to estimate total emissions.  The ministry will then be compensating the travel of all participants (even those who chose to compensate for their travel independently) as well as all other sources of carbo0n emissions associated with the conference.  The funds to offset the emissions will have a priority of being designated to the protection of small island developing states (SIDs).

STEPS TO LOCAL CLIMATE FINANCE

18. 04. 2018 || Eco-Posts

During my web research, I came across an article on climate finance. This I find useful and important for every Climate Change Entrepreneur and Activist.
Climate finance refers to financing channeled by national, regional and international entities for climate change mitigation and adaptation projects and programs.

STEPS TO LOCAL CLIMATE FINANCE.

By Marek Soanes and Clare Shakya

Evidence from community-focused initiatives suggests that climate and development funds can deliver local finance by adopting six key structural changes.

Countries are fast ratifying the Paris Agreementon climate change, which entered into force on 4 November 2016. Now comes the implementation phase. We may have got here sooner than expected but now that we are here, we will need a massive scale-up of climate finance, including international funds, to deliver on our promises.

But if such funds are to address the vulnerabilities of those most in need, they must make their way effectively and efficiently down to the local level. Are they up to the task? The short answer is probably not.

WORLD WATER DAY

Water is not only the most important substance on earth but a giver of sound health. All plants and animals must have water to survive. If there was no water there would be no life on earth.

Now why do we find it difficult to conserve water in the most natural ways? Imagine you waking up to find no water to use; to bath, cook or even brush your teeth.

Yea, right?

So why do we waste water?

I really do not like having water restrictions, so I’m taking out my time to conserve water and find out ways i can solve water challenges. In the organization where i work, we seek to tackle the issue of non conservation of water through our YFarm Project by setting up climate resilient farms and engaging in surface irrigation and water harvesting.

This year’s theme is Nature for Water – exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century.
