FIVE GIRLS RESTORING HOPE WITH AN APP TO FIGHT FGM

04. 07. 2018 || A BOLD ACTION

It’s done in secret at night. You are home for the holidays from boarding school, as there is no school in your rural community in Kenya. You are excited to see your family, but you are also filled with dread. It is circumcision season, and you are 13.

You listen carefully to the conversations at home, wondering which night it will happen, hoping you can run away into the night before the elderly woman with the knife comes. At age 13, a girl becomes a woman in your tribe by undergoing female genital mutilation (FGM) — the partial or total removal of a girl’s external genitals. It’s a rite of passage in your tribe and makes you eligible for marriage. You don’t want to marry; you’re young and want to stay in school. But your parents have other plans.

GENDER, SDGs & VULNERABILITY

GENDER, SDGs AND VULNERABILITY

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

THREE STEPS TO GREEN: HOW TO GET INVOLVED IN THE CLIMATE MOVEMENT

ReBLOG – The Climate Reality PROJECT

The headlines can be discouraging. Severe storms and wildfires are striking with more and more intensity due to rising global temperatures and a rapidly changing climate system. Meanwhile, the US continues to roll back critical climate policies and has maintained its irresponsible and very lonely decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement. But instead of feeling defeated, citizens – from all ages and backgrounds – are fighting back by standing up for clean energy and against the fossil fuel agenda. The movement is growing stronger every day, and our efforts together are getting results.Just look at what’s happening, both in the US and around the world. Young people are suing the Trump Administration for failing to address climate change. Grassroots organizations have pressured US cities to double climate efforts, and at least 47 have already committed to 100 percent renewable electricity. Internationally, climate action is also accelerating as several countries have stepped up their ambition to reduce emissions and install more clean energy, helping to fill the global leadership void left by the US.Are you ready to join the movement? We understand that speaking up can feel overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be. We broke the process down into three simple steps.

CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES

A Book Review

“Every  man  has  become  great, every  successful  man  has  succeeded, in  proportion  as  he  has  confined his  powers  to  one  particular  channel.” ORISON  SWETT  MARDEN

I have been reading lately and as one of my 2018 goals I must say I’ve tried to achieve a certain mark with this goal.

Today I’ll be sharing an excerpt from this book by Brain Tracy, Enjoy!

THE  MARK  OF  the  superior  thinker  is  his  or  her  ability  to  accurately  predict  the consequences  of  doing  or  not  doing  something.  The  potential  consequences  of  any task  or  activity  are  the  key  determinants  of  how  important  it  really  is  to  you  and  to your  company.  This  way  of  evaluating  the  significance  of  a  task  is  how  you determine  what  your  next  frog  really  is.

GENDER INEQUALITY IN EDUCATION

GENDER INEQUALITY IN EDUCATION: Pervasive in Nigeria, Barriers, Benefits and Recommendation.

Gender defines and differentiates what women and men, and girls and boys, are expected to be and do (their roles, responsibilities, rights and obligations).

Equal access to good quality education, resources, and opportunities regardless of gender equality including economic participation, decision making and the state of valuing different behaviors, aspirations and needs defines gender.

While there are very distinct biological differences between boys and girls and these can create different needs and capacities for each, these differences do not in themselves lead to or justify unequal social status or rights. The distinct roles and behaviors that are defined for boys and girls, and men and women in a society may give rise to gender inequalities, i.e. differences between men and women that systematically favor one group.

DEMOCRACY DAY

My nephew and I were having a serious “adult” conversation during dinner some nights ago, like real conversations – He’s so smart!

The euphoria of Democracy was in the air owing to the fact that he is on Mid-term break + Children’s day celebration and all. He asked me what Democracy meant. Honestly, I nearly missed it but thanks be to God, i remembered one phrase my Government teacher helped my life with “For the people, by the people”. My Aunt further completed the sentence.

ADEMO2

So it’s Democracy Day in Nigeria, my country!

In the midst of it all, I feel rather encouraged for reason being that I now have a new perspective towards the growth of my nation; and the fact i never used to and i now am means that there’s a wake up call for someone out there too!

SANITARY PAD HISTORY

23. 05. 2018 | An Article.

I have been wanting to know how sanitary pads came into being, asked my mum, did some surfing and found some good content about it.
Enjoy!
The sanitary pad is far and away the most widely used method of menstrual management. It is easy to use, easily accessible, and pretty straightforward. The pads we use today are made up of mostly synthetic, bleached material, but what were they like fifty years ago? And when were they invented?

Menstrual pads have been mentioned in history as early as the 10th century in Ancient Greece, where a woman is said to have thrown one of her used menstrual rags at an admirer in an attempt to get rid of him.

INTERGENERATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
